About Us

‘I’m Out of Here’ Ltd was a not for profit organisation based in the South West but with a small team of associates working all over England.  We worked together since 2016 and the team included people with professional backgrounds in health, social care and the law and people or family members with lived experience.

Through developing Life Plans with people we have helped people and the professionals involved to enable people to leave institutional care, leave mental health hospitals or ATUs (Specialist Hospitals), leave residential care or in some instances move on from their family home.

How did we begin?

I’m Out of Here Ltd began in 2016 when a small group of three people who had been planning with people to get them out of institutions, got together and in the wake of another abuse scandal set about planning with people detained in ‘specialist’ hospitals.  Along the way they found like minded and skilled people who joined the team and the I’m Out of Here journey.

In 2018, I’m Out of Here were asked to develop Life Plans with people funded by NHS England.  The team was expanded and the work continued to help get people out of hospital and into a home of their own.

I’m Out of Here Ltd closed in the Summer of 2025 when many of the associates and one of the three Directors chose to retire.  Nikki Henderson and Sam Sly, the other 2 former Directors, continue to undertake Life Plans with people all over the country independently.

Our Values

All the planning we do is undertaken with recognition of peoples rights under the Human Rights Act (1998) and the Convention of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (2006).   We believe this is the core legislative framework for people to be listened to and have a say over their lives, be treated with respect, dignity, and treated fairly and it underpins all of the Life Planning and Support Planning we do.

The plan we develop is aligned with the principles and values of citizenship and particularly the 7 Keys revised in 2023 by Dr Simon Duffy and Wendy Perez.  This is because we also believe citizenship means being respected, being equal and that we all have the same fundamental worth or dignity – regardless of money or power; and being different – citizens are not all the same and each of us has many gifts to bring to help build better communities.

Whilst we all have different wishes and needs the 7 Keys capture both peoples needs and desire to contribute and be part of our communities as we each live a good life in our own way.

Citizenship is.....
To be happy
To be in control of their lives
To be able to speak up
To be fulfilled
To be part of a family & have a family
To be part of their communities
To have a place to call home
To love & be loved
A life that makes sense to them
